Dutch courses for PhD students

Laura

Who are you?

My name is Laura. I am 28 and I am a PhD student at the Free University of Brussels. I'm from Italy. I am doing a PhD in Sport and Exercise Science.

How long have you been learning Dutch?

I started the first Dutch module in September 2023.

Why are you learning Dutch?

I work in a Dutch-speaking university, and all my colleagues are Flemish. I would like to talk to them in their mother tongue.

I like Belgium, and I would like to move to Flanders in the future.

Do you do anything with it outside the classroom?

I try to start some conversation with my colleagues. When I go to Flanders, I try to order coffee or food in Dutch. Unfortunately, it's difficult to speak Dutch in Brussels.

What do you like about the lessons?

We do a lot of exercises and we speak a lot. I think speaking is the best method to learn a new language. Marian is a very good teacher!
