Testimony of Vera, Teacher of General Education Subjects
When I teach, I feel completely in my element; it gives me energy!
I am passionate about education. I have taught at almost every level, from primary and secondary education to adult education. I have also worked in a variety of roles, ranging from policy and coaching positions to, of course, teaching itself.
Today, I teach in second-chance education. The very diverse group of learners consists largely of young people. I enjoy being able to support them during part of their journey.
Energy
When I teach, I feel completely in my element; it gives me energy! The thought that young people will soon leave the classroom knowing something they did not know before gives me a real buzz. I teach both Macusa (a general subject focusing on how people live together in society) and Dutch, and I think that is a wonderful combination.
Committed colleagues
I have incredibly supportive colleagues at Semper. One thing I had rarely experienced before is how naturally people share materials and resources here. As a workplace, I find it inspiring that the organisation is constantly looking for solutions and actively involves teachers in the process.
