You speak decent English, but feel it could be more fluent.  You already understand Shakespeare's language reasonably well and write fluently about familiar situations but ‘crossing the bridge to proficiency’ is not easy.

This English Effectiveness @combi course is spread over 2 school years. The first school year you take part A or part B and the next school year the other part.

Alternately, you work on your written competences at home, via our online learning platform (level Effectiveness 2) and on your oral competences in class (level Effectiveness 1).

What will you learn?

In this course, we train complex sentence structures and pay a lot of attention to vocabulary enrichment. We listen to topical and daily useful fragments and invite you to work on these yourself. You learn to work even more correctly with vocabulary and grammar, spelling, punctuation, layout, language register and sociocultural aspects.

After this course, you will be able to:

  • converse very fluently with a native speaker without fear of a fast speaking rhythm
  • follow the news on television or online and communicate about it in class
  • make a spontaneous oral contribution in a debate
  • use newly learned vocabulary consistently in a conversation or presentation
  • empathise with the culture of the language area and debate about it
  • form an opinion about what you read and express it accurately in writing
  • use the appropriate language register in the texts you write such as a report or an essay
  • read business, informative and literary works in English : ‘To enjoy, or not to enjoy, that's the question!’

To register for this level, you must have a certificate of English 7 A+B Speaking and Listening (= English Vantage 1).

Do you have this but can't find it anywhere, or do you already know decent English? Then you can take a short level test at the school office or on our website. If you score satisfactorily on this, you can enrol for this level.

For the distance learning part, you must have a PC or laptop with a fast and stable internet connection, a sound card and possibly a webcam. You must also have sufficient computer skills.

The price is composed of:

  • The legal enrolment fee: € 480
    (Subject to a decree amendment. Decree amendments take precedence over the centre regulations.)
  • Course supplies: € 12 (including course material and/or digital material and/or raw materials, ...)

Number of class times: 120 (including evaluation and deliberation)
