You already speak and write French fairly well but you still feel you can do better. You still have to think too much about certain structures and not so everyday words. Listening to radio and television material still puts you off a bit, reading general newspaper articles has worked quite well but more specialized articles and novels are still high threshold, so practice is the message!

This French Vantage @combi course is spread over 2 school years. The first school year you follow part A or part B and the next school year the other part. The order is not important.

Alternately, you work on your written skills at home, via our online learning platform (level Vantage 2) and on your oral skills in class (level Vantage 1).

Course content

What will you learn?

In this course we base the speaking and writing exercises on current events. We practice vocabulary and important grammatical structures in order to communicate fluently, not only in class but also while traveling or at work.

At the end of this course you will be able to:

very fluently apply basic grammar in oral conversations and written assignments
follow television debates or podcasts and invite your classmates into discussion and argumentation
give a fluent oral presentation on a current topic
use more sophisticated vocabulary to replace words you have known for some time
empathize with the culture of the language area and communicate about it
construct a text logically by using appropriate linking words and reference words
read complex articles (justice, insurance, architecture, education, language, culture...) and express your opinion in an opinion piece
write a report of an oral presentation
use more refined vocabulary to replace the words you already know.

Evaluation is done on an ongoing basis through a portfolio system and 4 tests in class.

Entry requirements

To register for this level, you must have a certificate of French 6 (= French Threshold 4).

Do you have this but can't find it anywhere, or do you already know some French? Then you can take a short level test at the school office or on our website. If you score satisfactorily on this, you can register for this level.

For the distance learning part you must have a PC or laptop with a fast and stable internet connection, a sound card and possibly a webcam. You must also be sufficiently computer literate.

You are willing to work on assignments regularly and independently through an online learning platform.
