You speak and write decent French, but you feel it could be smoother. Your sentences could be clearer, your choice of words more precise, your style better. You want to understand films and reports, even if the accent you hear is not what you are used to. You want to understand difficult newspaper articles and opinion pieces, even if you don't know all the words in the text. And you also want to get off the beaten path in terms of topics.

This French Effectiveness @combi course is spread over 2 school years. The first school year you follow part A or part B and the next school year the other part.

Alternatively you work on your written competences at home, via our online learning platform (level Effectiveness 2) and on your oral competences in class (level Effectiveness 1).

What will you learn?

In this course you will learn

  • understand complex documents and texts in detail: articles, reports, speeches, etc. You will work only from authentic documents and current events.
  • master a varied vocabulary in different fields (technology, justice, food, environment, health, consumption, etc.).
  • write a wide range of texts: formal or informal emails, reports, summaries, abstracts, tracts, petitions, critical opinions, comments, etc.
  • actively participate in and lead debates yourself, on topical issues in the classroom. Make oral presentations to your peers on topical issues. Defend your point of view and argue.
  • Integrate complex grammatical structures into your oral and written practice.

Evaluation is done on an ongoing basis through a portfolio system and 4 in-class tests.

To register for this level, you must have a certificate of French 7 Oral + Written (= French Vantage

Oral & Written).

Do you have this but can't find it anywhere, or do you already know some French? Then you can take a short level test at the school office or on our website. If you score satisfactorily on this, you can register for this level.

For the distance learning part you must have a PC or laptop with a fast and stable internet connection, a sound card and possibly a webcam. You must also be sufficiently computer literate.

You are willing to work on assignments regularly and independently through an online learning platform.

The price is composed of:

  • The legal enrolment fee: € 480
    (Subject to a decree amendment. Decree amendments take precedence over the centre regulations.)
  • Course supplies: € 12 (including course material and/or digital material and/or raw materials, ...)

Number of class times: 120 (including evaluation and deliberation)
