In this course, you will make a lot of progress in a short period of time.  An added bonus if you work or want to work in the medical field!

The course is entirely medically focused and includes a variety of authentic digital listening and visual materials with interactive assignments. Speaking and listening skills are at the centre. During the online contact moments with the teacher, you can ask questions about a language problem or a workplace case, or ask for other explanations.

What will you learn in the Dutch for Medical Professionals course?

You work or study in the medical field. Sometimes you cannot express yourself as fluently as you would like or you find it difficult to do a consultation in Dutch: passing on medical results, contacting health professionals, discussing cases...

Do you regret that you sometimes miss some contact with patients or colleagues because of this language barrier? Then definitely do this BASIC Medical Dutch course from level threshold 1.  It is a lively, dynamic and rich course that will boost your self-confidence!

In the course, you will:

  • learn to communicate correctly with patients and also understand informal language. 
  • listen to discussions, dialogues and medical advice via customised video clips.
  • practise patient-friendly language via specific cases.
  • learn how to give instructions and advice and how to give bad news.
  • focus on specific vocabulary about a.o.
    • the human body
    • symptoms and complaints
    • diagnoses
    • treatments
  • focus on important grammatical items.

How does the Dutch for Medical Professionals course work?

  • You go through the lessons autonomously at your own pace. You choose when you start and how many hours a week you spend on the module.
  • You will have access to the learning platform for an entire semester.
  • You will work with authentic video and audio materials.
  • You will receive personal feedback from the teacher and can attend online sessions by appointment  (individually or in groups). The teacher also monitors your study progress.

This course is intended for doctors, specialists and junior doctors who are taking or have taken Dutch for non-native speakers.

  • This course is not for Dutch native speakers.
  • To enrol for this module, you must have obtained at least a Dutch Threshold 1 certificate.
  • For this online course, you need a PC or laptop with a fast and stable internet connection, a sound card and a webcam. You must also have basic computer skills.

The price is composed of:

  • The legal enrolment fee: € 36
    (Subject to a decree amendment. Decree amendments take precedence over the centre regulations.)
  • Course supplies: € 3 (including course material and/or digital material and/or raw materials, ...)

Number of class times: 60 (including evaluation and deliberation)
