Themed course - Fusion 3D Sheet metal design

Official name: Open ICT - Open ICT ODB-Y00758-001

Do you want to design parts that are made from "sheet material" and then folded or bent? In this short course, you will be introduced to the "Sheet Metal environment of Autodesk Fusion".

Course content

In this short course, you will be introduced to the Sheet Metal environment of Autodesk Fusion.

You will learn step-by-step how to:

  • Convert a flat sheet into a 3D part
  • Take into account material thickness, folds, and bend radius
  • Work with the specific capabilities for sheet metal design
  • Design parts that align with the practical production method
  • Recreate a 3D design unfolds into a Flat Pattern
  • Prepares a design for sheet metal working and production

Using practical examples, you will design, among other things:

  • Brackets
  • Mounting plates
  • Boxes
  • Cover caps
  • Simple housings

So you learn not only how to model a sheet metal part in 3D, but especially how to go from an idea to a correct unfolding plan for sheet metal working comes.

What will you learn?

  • Getting acquainted with the Sheet Metal environment of Autodesk Fusion
  • The difference between classic 3D modeling and sheet metal design
  • Setting sheet thickness, material rules, and bending radius
  • Building a first sheet metal part
  • Working with flanges and pleated edges
  • Creating cutouts, holes, and openings
  • Correct angles and connections finishing
  • Taking into account folds and material deformation
  • Converting existing shapes into a Sheet Metal design
  • Unfolding a design into a Flat Pattern
  • Preparing the flat design for further processing
  • Exporting for laser, plasma, or CNC cutting
  • Developing a complete Sheet Metal project from design to production-ready file

Practical learning

The course emphasizes practical exercises. You will learn, using concrete examples, how to design sheet metal parts in Autodesk Fusion and prepare them for production.

Entry requirements

The course is suitable for anyone who wants to use Autodesk Fusion to design parts in sheet metal or other malleable sheet material.

Basic knowledge of Autodesk Fusion is required.
