Working with Microsoft Teams

Our online classes are conducted via video conferencing using Teams. You can use Teams in two ways

  • as an app or as an installed program. Because working with the app is more efficient and more reliable, we recommend this method.
  • as an online application in a tab of your browser: if you cannot install the app for technical reasons, e.g. on Chromebooks, you can fall back on this. We also recommend the online version if you want to use Teams on public devices. To do this, go to the Teams home page and click on the Sign up button.

We will focus on the app and on working on shared computers (app and online) on this page:

Start the Teams app

To start Teams: 

  • Press or click the Start button
  • Tap "teams"
  • Choose Microsoft Teams from the menu


    Attention! If the T on the icon is on a white background, you are using the personal version of Teams. 

    This version does not work with your school account. You must first install the correct version of Teams before you can continue (see below)

Install the Teams app

Teams is part of MS Office, so if you have already installed Microsoft office software (which you can also do with your CVO-Semper account), you already have Teams.

If you want to install Teams without installing Office, proceed as follows:

  • Follow this link or, if no longer valid, search for "install teams" in your browser
  • Click the button Download Teams


  • The download process will start (to the Downloads folder by default).
  • Run the downloaded program to start the Teams installation. At the end of this process, you can log in for the first time.

Logging in for the first time in the Teams app

It is important that you log in to Teams with the correct account, so that you are recognized as a CVO Semper student.

  • Enter your CVO Semper email address as the account name and click on the button Next:


  • Enter your password and click the Sign in button:


  • Uncheck Allow my organization to manage my device! Then make the choice:
    • Click the link No, sign in to this app only if you only want to use Teams with your CVO-Semper account or if several people use your computer.
    • Click the button OK if you also want to use other Microsoft applications, e.g. Office, with your school account.



  • If necessary, confirm the login with the Continue button:
  • The configuration is now complete!

Close the Teams app

Even if you 'close' the Teams app with the cross in the top right corner, the app remains active.

You can see this in the overview of hidden icons, which you can open with the arrow at the bottom right.

To close the Teams app completely:

  • Open the hidden icons menu
  • Right-click the Teams icon
  • Choose Quit Teams

Which Teams version do I have?

It is important to keep your Teams app up-to-date. This is how to check your current version:

  • Open the menu with the three dots
  • Choose Settings
  • Choose About Teams

You will see the version number and the last check date:

 

Working on shared computers

It's important to sign in to Teams with the correct account. This is especially important when multiple people use the same computer.

You can register multiple accounts in the Teams app and switch between those users.

  • when starting the app, before logging in, click on Create or use another account:
  • when the app has already started and someone else has logged in, click on the round icon of the logged in user at the top right. Then select Create or use another account from the menu:

You can easily switch between the different users known in the Teams app. Click on the round icon of the logged in user at the top right and select a new user from the menu:

If you want to use Teams online with different users, it is recommended that each user chooses their own browser. Once a browser is chosen, it's advisable to consistently use that same browserfor your CVO-Semper applications. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari...
