As part of our Erasmus+ project ‘Sharing Innovation For Inclusion’, colleague Nico Puype took part in the training course Brain-Based Learning: Understand How Students Really Learn from 21 to 26 March 2022 at the Europass Teacher Academy in Amsterdam. Teachers from Spain, Germany, Greece, Slovenia, and Belgium participated in the course.
This course explored recent research on how the brain works and its practical implications for learning, helping teachers to 1) understand when and how learning occurs, 2) design lessons based on scientific principles, and 3) use strategies and techniques (e.g., pretesting, retrieval practice, spaced repetition) that enhance and accelerate the learning process and maximize learning outcomes. The question is, How can we ensure that students remember what they learn better and for longer? was central.
