Course content

Do you dream of running your own home-based nursery?

Then this Introduction to Home-Based Nursery module is the perfect place to start! You’ll not only earn the required certificate for registered childminders but also discover what it means to work professionally in early years care. It’s an engaging and practical preparation for a rewarding and challenging career as a childminder.

Why take this course?

Since 2014, it has been compulsory to complete this module before starting as a registered childminder. It ensures you are well informed, well prepared, and ready to offer high-quality care for babies and toddlers.

  • No qualification yet in Early Years Care for babies and toddlers?
    Then you’ll take the Introduction to and Working in a Home-Based Nursery module (40 hours).
  • Already qualified but no experience in home-based nursery care?
    Then you’ll take the Introduction to Home-Based Nursery module (20 hours).

What to expect?

During the lessons, you will get a clear picture of the job content, the expectations, and the necessary skills. You will also reflect on your own situation: How will I approach this in my family childcare setting?

We will cover topics such as:

  • Setting up a daily routine
  • Arranging your childcare space
  • Balancing work and family life

You’ll also take time to reflect on your own strengths and develop a personal growth plan. This will help you identify your talents and areas for development.

100% online, at your own pace

You start and end the module with a team meeting with your teacher. You work on the remaining topics independently at home. Your teacher will monitor your progress and is always available for questions.

What do you get after completing the module?

Upon successful completion, you’ll receive an official Home-Based Nursery Care Certificate, allowing you to start work as a recognised childminder.

Entry requirements

Can I start this course?

Age

To enrol, you must be at least 18 years old. If you turn 18 before 31 December, you can start in September.

Language Level

As all classes are taught in Dutch, you must be able to speak and write Dutch well. If you are a non-native speaker, you need to have a Dutch language certificate at Threshold 4 (B1) level.

ICT Skills

You should have basic ICT skills, and it is useful to have a computer and internet connection at home. Please let us know if this is not the case.

Qualification Certificate  

If you only want to take the Introduction to a Home-Based Nursery module (20 hours), you must present your qualification certificate.

How much does the course cost?

You pay a maximum of €1.00 per lesson hour, up to a limit of €200 per semester. Reduced enrolment fees may be available. Additionally, there is a fee per module for course materials (copies, syllabi, and/or handbook, and any activities).

How can I enrol?

After a personal interview, we will create a tailored study plan with you. After that, you can enrol in the course.

  • The legal enrolment fee: € 20
    (Subject to a decree amendment. Decree amendments take precedence over the centre regulations.)
  • Course supplies: € 2 (including course material and/or digital material, ...)
